at a picnic in Primrose Hill
I sat in the shade of that tree yesterday (the big one in the middle), where I was joined by Henry. . .
(tortoises are much faster than you imagine - at times it was hard keeping up with him!) we were entertained by many things - one of my favourite being listening to 78s from the '30s
played on a wind-up gramophone:
ever wondered where the phrase "put a sock in it" comes from? how else do you think you could quieten down the sound from one of these:

I came second in a game of croquet! (don't tell anyone, but I did cheat a little. . .) (how else is someone supposed to win at croquet?)
there was lots of delicious food. . . my favourite being the box of cup cakes that someone brought from here (check it out - they are amazing!)
it was fun - it was also the first time I've been to a social thing for a very long time and I was totally out of practice at talking to people. . .

I am thinking in dealing with people and chasing tortoises, practice does nothing to help...
but then
it could just be me.
Oh that sounds wonderful. And my goodness so many different cup cakes! It's an art form no less!
What a brilliant day out! And "dealing with" people often means simply smiling politely and listening.
(That might be the tree I sat under when I sketched. Or the one I cannoned into on my tea tray!)
I trust you didn't use the tortoise in the croquet game. Or use flamingoes as mallets.
I LOVE tortoises, they're very good company when you're feeling shy (:
Ohhhhhh....tortoise and picnic and STUFF!
I'da stuck with talking to Henry. LOL Much prefer tortoises to people.
;-)
OMGosh......

Ohhhhhhh.........AND a gramophone.
Wow.
That was some picnic!

I'm sending the cupcake link Rhiannon...
Can she make some?
:-)
Cuz if she can, I'll send her the link too! :-)
what place did the tortoise come in in the croquet match?
(shot you think I lost to a tortoise? hmmmmmmmmm, how did you know!)
The American writer/humorist Fran Leibowitz pretty much "nailed" the art of conversation thusly:
The opposite of talking isn't listening. The opposite of talking is waiting.
