the more you eat, the more you . . .no, it's ok, I'm not talking about baked beans (puking sounds), I'm talking about broad beans. . .yum! see, delicious green broad beans, so much tastier than disgusting baked beans. . .yuk! why would anyone want a plate of that (more puking sounds) rather than a portion of healthy green beans. . . actually, my children would (unbelievable, eh) - however, this does mean all the more green beans for me!really really really really tasty with some freshly grated black pepper, maybe a pinch of sea salt, a dollop of soft butter and perhaps a squeeze of lemon juice (or even, a dash of balsamic vinegar)
.
.
so there you have it - anyone for a portion of (really tasty) broad beans (pepper, salt, butter, balsamic optional)?!

I don't know if its the same on your side of the pond, but over here, folks have taken to eating blanched edamame with salt as a snack or side dish, suck 'em right out of the pod. I doubt the restaurants could charge as much if they just called 'em soy beans.
Interestingly (and perhaps true as I've heard it more than once) the bean was named after the sauce and not the other way around. How that occurred, I have no idea.
I think that you have highlighted an important issue here.
Pls to post more bean and lentil related articles.
Hated broad beans as a kid, but now I love 'em! Sadly, they are not a tropical crop.(Oh, yes, I'm with Vicus. )
I mean...*in agreement with Vicus.* Not actually in Hampshire.
let's see...are broad beans the same as fava beans?
I bet you'd like MY baked beans....
I'll have some. I like the Italian flat green beans, Roma variety beans. I lightly steam them, (blanche actually), then season with garlic and olive oil and some roasted slivered almonds. Had 'em that way last Sunday. Good stuff those beans.
Peace.
I'm with your children on this.
Dave SURELY NOT!!!!!!!
man I'm liking adding the almonds. . .
katherine. yes - and finally the phrase "I ate his liver with fava beans and a nice chianti" makes sense to me
dinah that's a shame! (for Vicus)
dinah me too - I blame my mother's cooking (just as well really, about the tropical crop, if you do grow them you end up eating so many it does put you off)
Vicus I'm not sure which was the important issue, but I'll make a note to research more bean and lentil items for your delictation
shot here as well, altho until recently I didn't realise that it was the same bean
which sauce?
Yes. I have very common tastes.
omgosh.....the first time I saw himself put beans on toast.... *gak*
No suprise when he put a taste in his mouth and stared at me as if he'd somehow been betrayed. LOL
Our baked beans in the can are NOT your baked beans in the can.
Neither, IMHO, shoud be put on toast--that's just wrong.
Yes, please...broadbeans please--with balsamic and without the toast, thank you. :-)
between Hannibal the cannibal and beans on toast [blech] and I feeling rather queasy.
it is too early to be reading stuff like that...
and no...it is NOT morning sickness
blech and gak all round then! (sorry Dave)
I first ate a plate of green (runner) beans in Italy when I was about 18. I couldn't quite believe it was me.
Since then a plate of those beans with lemon juice, black pepper and a tomato is one of my favourite things.
Unfortunately, I also discovered Pizza
I thought I was the only person in the world who loathes baked beans!
Parsley - you forgot the parsley with the broad beans!!! No? I love parsley with broad beans.
mig I was thinking about herbs, but I forgot - parsely will do nicely, thanks
