yes, yes, yes, you're nodding; also thinking "how time flies! where did the year go! I can't believe it's October already!" - do you think it's an age thing? does time seem to pass faster the more years we've experienced. . .

the leaves will be falling off the trees and the branches will be bare before we know it (this doesn't apply to those of you in the Southern Hemispiere, obviously) and for the rest of us, the trees will soon be looking like these:

and other things will be falling off the trees too: conkers!(not where I live, there aren't many trees - more's the pity - perhaps I'll take a walk to the park later) and there's only one decent thing to do with a conker, isn't theredo you think, however many years have passed, that I'm too old for conkers? actually, thinking about it, however old I am, conkers isn't a game for one, is it. . .

happy first of October, people,
happy first

some clever clogs told me that time appears to go more quickly when you're older because you are no longer doing new things everyday and storing new memories, so the trick is obviously to try and experience at least one new thing everyday!

Hmmmmmm, easier said than done isn't it?!

I'm not here, obviously, but will write about conkers tomorrow, especially for you (have been collecting them from the country lanes round here for the last couple of weeks).

ZigZ I get that. . . I think it's also because it's all relative, and the older you get the more you have it to be relative too

however, I shall bear the "new experience" thing in mind! (there's so much I haven't done yet. . .)

Dave I'm glad you're not here here. . . don't you just love conkers when they are fresh off the trees and all shiney and glossy and smooth. . .

"does time seem to pass faster the more years we've experienced"

As I understand it, it appears that time goes by more quickly because its and ever smaller portion of what we've lived. To a three year old, another year is equal to one third of their entire lifetime, thus an eternity. To me, it's a mere 1/41st of my journey.

ha! it's shorter for me. . . only 1/45th

Time passes--sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly...
And I say you're never too old for conkers.....or sidewalkchalk....or bubbles! :-)

You could make a variation on the eternal motion toy with conkers hitting each other instead of metal balls!

Conkers?
what the bloody hell is a game of Conkers?
and by the way those look like Buckeyes, not chestnuts..but I don't know my Brit trees very well...
Conkers???
WRF?

Sorrow conkers are the fruit/seed/nuts of horse-chestnut treess: you take it out of its somewhat spiky shell, make a hole thru the conker, thread it on a piece of string, secured by a knot, then whack it at someone else's conker

if yours smashes theirs, your conker gains a point. . .

explaination here

edible chestnuts are the fruit/seed/nut of the chestnut tree, a relation of the beech, the skin is much spikier than that of a conker. . .

and the nut is edible. . .

I'm not sure what a buckeye is!

mig that would make an interesting addition to an autumn nature table!
