gizmos: has anyone come across something

called DANE-ELEC?

it's amazing. . .

so amazing I might have to put it on my xmas list

you clip the gadgety bit onto the top of a piece of paper, and then write on the paper with their special pen. . . and somehow the shape of your handwriting is picked up by a light sensor thing and then you plug the gadgety bit into your computer and something inside the gadget sends an image of your writing to your computer, where it is put on a little screen - as if you'd written on the computer screen itself - and then you click a button and then (so long as your writing is fairly legible) your handwritten words are transformed, as if by magic, into what will become the basis of a word processable document
.
it can also do the same for pictures (not make them into a word document, but send your drawing to your computer)
.
what else is out there
that I don't know about?

i saw something similar to that once -- i can't recall the name of it -- but the catch was you had to write on a special type of paper for the gadget to work, and the special paper was rather pricey...it's a good idea, though

Sat nav? No. Ipod? no. Big new car? no.
One of these toys? I think so.

dinah the interesting thing was how it translated doodles/pictures into words. . .

planet you can use any paper with this one, as long as you have the gizmo attached at the top - but you do need to use the special pen (which writes like a biro)

ZiggZ fun, eh!

shot me too. . .

Dave the friend who showed it to me is using it in her courses for improving adult literacy (she's teaching them - this is supposed to encourage people to write neatly)(it doesn't correct spelling mistake, or grammatical errors - but perhaps Word will once your text is imported)

Mel it promises hours of fun!!

Wireless gadget reading the pen movements like a mouse wireless reads the mouse movements? (how does the mouse do that anyway?)
Anyway, that is a wonderful thing. Going straight to the top of my Christmas list! In fact, so far, it is my Christmas list.

just think, you'd be in a coffee shop somewhere and you'd have a thought and you'd take out the clippy bit and clip it to your notebook page and start writing and when you got home you could upload the though onto your pc

brilliant, eh. . .

hmmmm.

does it come up as a word doc? or a pdf?

It needs to have spell check.

but still very very cool.

katherine. a word doc!!! and the pictures are either "translated" into words, or you just copy them into your picture programme for further manipulation. . .
