draining: and, altho there is a strange

similarity, I'm not referring to the weather
now, I don't often borrow things from other people (mainly cos I've lent out so much that has never been returned, I don't want to fall into that trap) but today is an exception. . .
.
so, with Ms Mel's permission*, I'm borrowing this from her and sharing it with you:
.
"if you seem to lack the energy to move forward, ask yourself this question: what is draining you? are there negative habits or thought patterns that steal your energy away? are there people in your life who drain your energy with their negativity? are you being constantly depleted by your focus on the world's difficulties? whatever may be draining your energy, you can find it and successfully deal with it
.
"once you do, you'll find you have all that is necessary to accomplish forward movement"
.
(*I'm working on the permission thing)(ooops)
.
this morning I had a panic attack
.
well, all the symptoms of one - but nothing to panic about
.
it came out of nowhere and stayed with me for a while and reminded me of how this time last year, or even nine-six months ago I'd have been reaching for the tablets in order to cope/escape; on this occasion, I thought it thru: what was I panicking about? there was nothing (I'll spare you the thought process that led me to "nothing", since obviously this isn't the case, but nothing "new" or "not done" on a to-do list and no great "impending doom" yadda yadda yadda)
.
so it was very strange, panicking but not panicking, if you see what I mean
.
I eventually distracted myself, the symptoms eventually subsided, and a while after that went about my day (and ticked at least, if not more than, three things off the to-do list); as I was out and about I found myself whistling carols* - which was a bit strange really, because it's not xmas until after Teen Too's birthday and that's not for a few days yet
.
(*one of them is a tune that I'd never heard of until this year and now I keep hearing it everywhere) (isn't it odd when that happens?)
.
so here I am: still humming that tune, a few very minor accomplishments achieved, a few more achievable ones left and then the biggie in the new year (finding a job)
.
I know we haven't even done xmas yet (nor Teen Too's birthday) and perhaps I shouldn't think about things too far down the line. . .
.
. . .but 2010 - wow! a new decade. . . how did that happen?
.
<--- can finally think more than a few hours in advance

I think, now, there's nothing else that I'm going to panic about on the horizon.

that's great Dave

I'm sure whistling's the answer to panic attacks. Perhaps in the new year you could become a professional whistler (no, not a football referee), a whistle-therapist to help people with panic attacks and other psychological, emotional or social problems. If I knew the Greek for 'whistle' I could coin a smart, convincing name for this new therapy. I may have to ask Z.

Actually I feel some of the old trouble coming on - could I perhaps be a guinea-pig? Sousa marches, Palestrina, Roy Orbison, anything like that. But no carols, please.

Dearheart, you steal/borrow/use anything you want ANYtime. It's yours. And I'm just prouder than proud that you worked your way throught it AND found yourself whistling carols.

Woooohoooo!!

Have a holly jolly Christmas....lalalala!

Make that two gold stars on the tree for today's efforts AND bunches more love.

Oh bother, a Panic Attack. By your own report, you handled it beautifully! :)

Great big, warm, congratulatory hugs for you!!!! And a sneaky kiss on the cheek as long as I'm there.

Good that you got through it. All of them might not be so easy, at least they aren't for me, but remembering that you had a triumph once will help stem the tide the next time, or even chase it off before it sets in.

Peace to you dear friend.

I, Like The View said...

man peace. . . indeed

to you too

shot *blushing* a peck on the cheek? really! pour moi. . .

mel (((((((((((you too))))))))

(oh, and thanks!!!)

(the carol must be an American one - something about 'Oh Holy Night'? with a real high note. . . I first heard it when Frasier and Niles taught Martin how to sing the high note)(well, they tried)(but I know you don't watch tv, so you might not have seen that)

Christopher that would be some kind of σφύριγμα therapy

old trouble? I hope not - poor you

but yes, I'll be accepting a caseload to practise on soon enough

consider yourself signed up

(altho I think art therapy is my real goal)(eventually)

Thank you for knowing the Greek for 'whistle'. Now I need Christopher to tell me how to pronounce it.

Well done, how strong you are now. I do hope you're proud of yourself.

Mel said...

<-- just smiling broadly

O holy night.... What a GREAT carol!!

*humming happily*

Mel said...

σφυρίζω <-- Greek for 'whistle'

Ain't it pretty?! :-)

O Holy Night.

My favorite (or, at least it's in the top 2 or 3) (The Christmas Song ("chestnuts roasting...") being in the top 2 or 3 also) (3, just in case i think of another)

you've grown so much, it seems to me. i think you are awesome. :)

*humming*
....O Holy Night....

G I like it that you like the carol!

Mel I wonder what the Greek for blowing bubbles is. . .

why am I wondering that?!

Z perhaps he'll know how it's written in Latin (google translator doesn't seem to have a Latin option)

Latin for whistle is sibilare. σφύριγμα seems to be sfurigma, but I'm open to correction.

Mel said...

Ohhhhh.....I like sibilare. That's almost as pretty as the Greek lettering!

Sibilare.
I'm gonna haffta find a reason to use that in a sentence today!
(they'll just think it's another made up Mel word. LOL)

O when
You're
Feeling depressed and under the weather
And you've just about reached the end of your tether
And you don't know what to do -

O when
You
Tell your friends you prefer to be sad
("It's much more fun than feeling glad!")
And you're in a bit of a stew -

O then
You
Purse up your lips and whistle, dear:
Just take it from me that this'll clear
Away any thought of feeling blue...

...I think you're beginning to catch the gist
And you're well on the way to making a fist
Of becoming an autosphurigmatherapist.

Happy days.

Mel said...

*laughing*

That's almost as cute as himself calling me an 'autocondimentist'.

I, Like The View said...

Mel I'm almost tempted to ask why he calls you that

but not quite!

Christopher now I'm humming a different tune. . .

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

Mel did you? (!)

Z trying to pronunce the initial sf is making me whistle!

Christopher said...

'Chewing on life's gristle'

Brilliant!

*thinks: some people will do anything for a rhyme*

Mel said...

Nope, dangit.....

<-- wrote it on a sticky note and WILL find a use for it today!

:-)

*happily humming*

I, Like The View said...

Mel so. . .

. . .did you

. . .

(-;

(!)

Christopher so, who do you think got the gristle, Jack Spratt or Mrs Spratt?

there is nothing worse that chewing on gristle - my father would have given us any uneaten, or spat out bits, back for the next meal when I was young, so we learnt to chew and chew and chew and swallow

(GAK! as Ms Mel would say)

perhaps the Python lads had similar upbringings

I spend twice as much on a piece of meat and have it half as often, to ensure my children don't have the same issues

(I like rhyme)(and mixing up metaphors and nursery rhymes and lyrics and fairy tales and such)
