how long is a piece of string?

long enough to tie you down. . .
long enough to tie you together. . .long enough to tie you up. . .
I would now share with you, dear reader, the lyrics from The Goodies' song "Everybody Loves String" (second only, on my list of favourite Goodies' songs, to "The Funky Gibbon"), but it seems that my faithful co-companion in mainly image but sometimes associated crimes of other lesser-known knowledges, Mrs Google, has let me down; so from memory:

"String string string string string!
Everybody loves string!
String for your pants, string for your vest!
Everyblody knows that string is the best!"
(and yes, I've spared you images of old M&S string vest and Y-fronts - you can breathe a sigh of relief and return to your more productive Sunday morning activities)

Well, my dear friend, right nearby where I live, less than 75 miles, (120.7 kilometers), is the world's largest ball of twine.
But that's not string, which is a totally different thing. The world's largest ball of string is HERE
If you'd like to check up on other very large, and probably the largest things in the world that are in the good ole USA, see THIS site.
Now that will tell you a bit about how bored i am as it is early morning here right now and I seem to be the only one awake, which is usually the case every morning.

Peace anyway.

I've just returned from my more productive Sunday morning activities.

Now I'm going to do something with some cord, but you'll have to wait for my blog tomorrow to find out what.

Exactly. Sursum corda.

Christopher, that's getting a little racey for chez moi

usually it's Dave's site which houses that kind of excitement

Dave I'm looking forward to tomorrow already

man well, I'm the only one here at weekends, so I enjoyed the distractions you provided from my solitude - which is just a reflection on certain lacks in my life! - and thus I thank you!

Sorry. I was at my wit's end.

string is a very useful thing, rope is thicker but string is quicker - by that nutcase whose name I can't remember at the mo but he was one of those goons.

personally I find string an illusive thing there's never any when you need it but it ties up everything in a drawer when you don't.

My Aged Aunties were fond of reciting this poem by Hillaire Belloc. Particularly if I was caught chewing string. Or if I wouldn't finish my dinner.

The Chief Defect of Henry King
Was chewing little bits of String.
At last he swallowed some which tied
Itself in ugly Knots inside.

Physicians of the Utmost Fame
Were called at once; but when they came
They answered, as they took their Fees,
"There is no Cure for this Disease.

"Henry will very soon be dead.''
His Parents stood about his Bed
Lamenting his Untimely Death,
When Henry, with his Latest Breath,

Cried, "Oh, my Friends, be warned by me,
That Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch, and Tea
Are all the Human Frame requires…''
With that, the Wretched Child expires.
