today I am going to see an acquaintance

who once gave me a bunch of violets. . .

for no reason whatsoever, other than she thought I'd like them! and thinking of violets puts me in mind of a song

Was a long and dark December, from the rooftops I remember
There was snow, white snow
Clearly I remember from the windows they were watching
While we froze, down below
When the future's architectured by a carnival of idiots on show
You'd better lie low
If you love me, won't you let me know?
Was a long and dark December when the banks became cathedrals
And the fog became God
Priests clutched onto bibles, hollowed out to fit their rifles
And the cross was held aloft
Bury me in armour when I'm dead and hit the ground
A love back home unfolds
If you love me, won't you let me know?
I don't want to be a soldier who the captain of some sinking ship
Would stow, far below
So if you love me, why'd you let me go?
I took my love down to Violet Hill, there we sat in snow
All that time she was silent still
So if you love me, won't you let me know?
If you love me. . .

it's not my favourite song of theirs, I find pieces of it too raw and shouted (raw is ok, sometimes, but - and call me old fashioned if you will - I prefer a song sung), aspects of it don't appeal, but parts of the lyrics have certain nuances which I like. . .

and on the subject of things I like (which we were, for this is my little piece of time and space where I can indulge myself in such things), yesterday I received the first email ever from Amazon (the book site, not the river) recommending something I might actually think of pursuing (and possibly purchasing)

and the cover of that book reminds me of the work of Peter Blake, so with a brief stop off humming about lonely hearts (a happier tune than the one above, and one for which none of us needs either the lyrics or the link). . .

. . .finally, dear reader (for you are - do you know that? I hope so!), I'll leave you in peace. . .
.
but not empty handed - I leave you today with some (of his) love (and lots of mine, obviously) for your weekend - have a good one!

One of the many things I like about the paths you wander down is that there are no signposts on them.

Happy Saturday!

Cornell's boxes are marvellous.
I keep meaning to have a go - even got the box.
Procrastination eh?.

Violets........oh how thoughtful--just cuz she thought you'd like them....

I like her already.

And I love the box!
OMgosh I love the box!

*happily humming*

(I don't like songs screamed at me either...)

little boxes are fascinating, like Kaz I'm always meaning to have a go.

yes, unanticipated violets from a friend are worth more than roses, expected, from a familiar lover.

so why have we all given roses, yet few of us have proffered flowers to a friend?

Dave said...

I have never given roses.

I give you a star instead.

k.... I'm feeling a bit better about all of this.

<-- has given roses AND flowers

And I have made boxes with 'stuff'--I'm kinda in the process of another box, only I've mislaid bits of it. *sigh*
None, of which, are dried flowers from a friend. Just sayin'....

I had to come back and talk about the boxes. I have made some before and now that I see this one, I want to make more. I use recycled window panes and hinge them at the side so the box can be opened. I use old wood from barns or pallets for the "box". I leave it unpainted and rustic. Even the recycled window pane I leave with paint peeling. Most I have made before, i have sold empty, for the new owner to fill with their items. But I wonder about a theme and selling them decorated.
Oh well, thanks for letting me use your space to 'talk'. Just felt the need.

Peace.

man I too used to make and sell boxes. . .

altho, acutally, I used to buy the plain boxes from a wholesaler, paint/decorate them, fill them with little bits and pieces of interesting ephemera and then sell them to people who like interesting things but had neither the time, inclination or (dare I say it) artistic ability to do so. . .

some where childish - with Noah's Ark items. . .

some were of vintage interest (old buttons and wooden thread spools). . .

some were just strange and bizarre (thinks that I found interesting to make and just did on a whim, not caring whether anyone else like them)

. . .I was first introduced to the work of Cornell when I was studying bookbinding. . . I still need to pursue that

am loving the thought of the paint peeling window frame boxes. . .

as for space to think and talk, you've found the right place here!

Mel if I could, I'd send you a selection of snowdrops, bluebells and violets

just cos I think you'd like them!

Dave noone has ever given me a star before

thank you

I've never given anyone a bunny before, but here's one just for your sweet self:

(\__/)
(='.'=)
(")_(")

(it's a very low maintenance bunny, you'll be pleased to know. . . and it doesn't poop either, so won't ruin your garden)

Leonard how lovely to see you here!

I think you might give some flowers to people you care about this week, rather than just wondering about it - not even for the result of knowing that you'll make them smile, just for the pleasure of the act

ZiggZ we should have a virtual blogging box day!!

Mel I had a lovely time with her - of which more later

(-:

man my pleasure!

KAZ don't fret - I have two whole cupboards full of things waiting for me to do. . .

but, during the procrastination, I enjoy thinking about the possibilities

Christopher I hope you had a happy Saturday too, and now a good Sunday

Dave hugs, sweetie, hugs. . . lovely warm and cuddly hugs

(that's with/from me, not the bunny)

katherine. I'm so glad that you're back and spending a little time here

and. . . everybody. . . I had a great day out, but a bit of a lonely sad trip back to a cold and empty house: all I can say is that it makes me smile to come home to all your lovely thoughts and comments

I know that's a little smushy and possibly icky, but it's not meant that way

I hope you understand
